WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY ENGAGEMENT SESSION?
So you've booked your engagement session, and now you're stumped! Should you wear a gown? A dress? A t-shirt and jeans? Really, you can wear whatever you want - they're your photos! Read on for some wardrope tips to keep you looking good on your big day before the big day.
STEP 1. CONSIDER YOUR LOCATION
Before slipping into a gown and heels on your way to your beach photo shoot, consider your location! Are we heading to Fenway Park? Maybe you want to throw on some Red Sox jerseys, or a casual date night outfit. Running around the Seaport? Go glam with a formal look. Hanging out at your favorite park? Cozy up in a warm sweater.
STEP 2. COORDINATE!
You're being photographed with your partner, so make sure you don't clash! This goes for both style and patterns. Try on your outfits in advance, or lay them out next to each other and snap a photo with your phone. How do they look? Is one of you wearing formalwear and the other in ripped jeans? Maybe back to the drawing board. Do your patterns and colors look good together? Great!
STEP 3. MULTIPLE OUTFITS
I know, I know. You just spent all that time coordinating two perfect outfits for your engagement photos. But guess what! Typically these shoots are anywhere between 1 and 2 hours, which means plenty of time to change into something else. For most couples, this means a fun date night outfit plus either a casual outfit or a formal outfit. You can bring even more, too! This way, you'll have tons to choose from, and if your shoes are uncomfortable, you can change into something else :)
STEP 4. BE YOURSELF
We've been talking a lot about specific types of clothes. The main thing you want to remember is to BE YOURSELF! Maybe your parents have requested you wear a suit & tie for a few photos. And we can do that! But the next thing you wear should scream YOU. Do you love going to concerts together? Wear your favorite band tees! Is going on a hike in activewear and boots with your dogs more your jam? Then let's do it! How you look is totally up to you.
STEP 5. FEELING GOOD
You might already have considered this, but try on your outfits before your photo shoot. Look in the mirror. How do you feel? If your answer is anything less than "amazing," try again. Maybe you can pinpoint what you're feeling self conscious about. If you're wearing a dress and you don't love how it makes your arms look, try layering a jacket on top! If you've put on jeans and you don't love the fit, try going back to your favorite old pair of jeans, or buy a new pair in a different style. In whatever you're wearing, you want to feel good, you want to feel like yourself, and you want to feel confident. It will make a difference in your photos!
